Save the Words

Save the Words is an online Ouija board that brings dead nouns, verbs, and adjectives to life. Each of the words you’ll find here was once a living, breathing part of our language. Roll your cursor over it, and it’ll cry out: “Over here!” or “Yo! Pick me!” Click, and you’ll see a succinct definition, an example sentence, and an invitation to use the word you’ve picked in your everyday conversation and correspondence. Some words are especially challenging: Good luck to anyone who chooses urette (it means “dried animal urine absorbed into chalky soil”). Others, like boreism (“behavior of a boring person”) are so utible (“useful”) you’ll wonder why they went away in the first place.
