Is the device kept in a cover or case? Where and how to you use and handle it?

Out of curiosity, why should Kobo be expected to replace a device and/or lose money on said device for something that may not be their fault, especially after two weeks?

From experience, they will ask for proof, and they are within their rights to refuse replacement. Warranty doesn't cover damage that can be considered user-caused wear and tear.
