This is my understanding of what the different identifiers mean. I am curious to see other's posts.

asin: I believe that this is deprecated in calibre, replaced by "amazon".

amazon: The ASIN value for a book at amazon.com. There are variants for other other Amazon websites. For example amazon_uk refers to a book at amazon.co.uk.

mobi-asin: The ASIN value contained within an e-book file. This includes the "fake" ASIN values generated by calibre that are actually UUIDs.
