You want to login properly with an account at Kobo. That way if you want, you can buy eBooks from Kobo and use Overdrive on your Glo HD. And in the past, the loging cheat stopped working when the firmware changed something in the database. Anyone with the login cheat lost everything. So don't do it. Just create an account at Kobo and do a proper registration. I've had my Aura H2O register for 5 years 8 months and I've never had a problem.
I'm preparing a Kobo Glo HD for a friend. Don't wanna have to reset it when I give it to her. I want KOReader to be present, with some customisation

Is it that you don't want to register with Kobo? If so, see @PeterT's link or one of the many other similar discussions. But, my opinion is closer to @JSWolf's, that it isn't worth it, but, unlike him, I am completely happy for you to do it the way you want to.

If the problem is that the you are getting WiFi connection errors during the setup, that is an easy fix. The issue is that Kobo had to remove older security protocols from their servers. This was because they are no longer considered to be secure. Unfortunately, this means that older devices cannot connect to the server after a full factory reset. You can do the setup using Kobo desktop application. This still supports the newer devices. Alternatively, if you manually update the firmware to 3.19.x or later, the setup over WiFi can be done successfully.

Also, your post really doesn't belong in this thread. It is completely unrelated to this thread. You will get better attention starting a thread for your question, or finding a thread discussing the same problem.
Thanks.
