@MorganM: As @MGlitch said, this is a manufacturing defect. The first ereaders with front lights suffered a lot from them. Happily, they seem to have virtually disappeared in recent devices. I think there has only been one other report for the Libra H2O. As you've already discovered, Kobo acknowledges the problem and doesn't make it to hard to get a replacement.
