How are we dealing with case-sensitive usernames?

Case-sensitive usernames are common in linux but not windows. Being mainly a windows person, this is always a surprise when I encounter it. When logging in with an ipad to the server, I have a lot of trouble logging in and then realize that the username field auto-capitalizes.

Is there a way to prevent the auto-capitalization for the username field?
I'm guessing we will not entertain the idea of making usernames case-insensitive, so what are people doing?
Training the user to correct the username field?
Add both lowercase and capitalized users into calibre?
