After a good while, it restarted to the main screen (The boy reading under the tree), with no progress bar. And it has been there for over five days now. I’ve charged it for over 24 hours, tried rebooting by holding in the bottom button for 40 seconds (which only causes the screen to blink twice and go back to that state again) but still nothing. PC doesn't recognize it either anymore. Looks like I’m gonna have to start saving for a new one :-( Pity, as this was a great little unit until it decided to end.

That is a shame that a side loaded eBook bricked your Kindle. You do have another choice, since you have to save, you might want to look into Kobo at a cheaper price. You can get a Clara HD or a Libra H2O. The H2O is similar to the Oasis 3 except better firmware and cheaper price. The Clara HD is cheaper then the PW4. But if you are set on another Kindle, supposedly Prime day (if you have Prime) is sometime in October and Kindles should be on sale.
