First of all: I am in mobility now and I cannot assess quietly, but: I do not seem to notice a degradation in resolution in the presence of colour. The renderer to me (at this phase) looks smart enough. A reduction to 100-ish DPI should be very noticeable!

EDIT: I would say for example that some strings in colour (e.g. the white on dark cyan "Sign in" in one of the pictures) look more jagged than black ones, but I would not say there is such a 9x degradation out of a resolution loss... (The lower part of the pictures is just the upper contrasted).
