No one is "forced" to upgrade a device. So what if the batteries aren't easily replaced? Plenty of users who want to do so usually manage.
We have several older devices/iPhones. They work just fine. An iPhone 6 from 2014, a 7+ from 2016, and we just gave a working 2nd gen Paperwhite to one of our grandsons.
Both of the iPhones function at about 92% of battery life compared to when they were new. The 6 is stuck at iOS 12 something, but that as of yet has not been a problem. It runs all the needed apps, and works just fine.
Many users do upgrade their devices every two years, but plenty of us don't. It get tiresome to hear how we are forced to upgrade, when it's just not true.
Shoot, my old iPhone 4s still works, and the battery on it lasts 5-6 hours for games the kids like to play. And it's almost 9 years old.
