spacing between paragraphs added after book conversion

I have a book I bought on Amazon, imported into Calibre, and then converted to epub to read on my Kobo reader.
In the conversion dialogue, the "remove spacing between paragraphs" is checked. Not even necessary in this case, since the book didn't originally contain any.

Yet the resulting epub does have spacing between paragraphs. On my Kobo reader and in Calibre's reader it looks like in the first picture.
However, if I look at the epub, the text is displayed fine, withouth space between the paragraphs, as in the second screenshot.

Is there something in the CSS that could cause this that I should tweak manually? (I've added the contents of the css a a text file, just in case.)
