I used to take my ereader with me in my handbag and pull it out at lunchtime or whenever I had a few minutes to read. Since Covid I don't usually take my reader out of the house because it's just one more device to clean when I get home.
I figure a device that I take out and about and use during the day is not a closed system since I may not have the opportunity to thoroughly wash my hands before each use.
I can manage to read for brief periods on my phone without a problem (can't read too long on it or I get eyestrain). I clean my phone when I get home. Since alcohol/disinfectant wipes disappeared from the stores in my area at the beginning of Covid and haven't returned, I usually dampen a paper towel and add a drop of dish soap, then wipe the screen and the case with that, being careful to avoid getting it into places like the USB port or headphone jack.
Once I'm home and have washed my hands, then I can use the ereader that stayed at home.
