As a graphic designer, I tend to use Publisher Default because, like you, I want to preserve the book designer’s vision for the book, be it with body text or headers. I haven’t encountered any of the monstrosities that others have complained about here, but if I ever do, I’m glad I can rectify it by selecting my own font. Not every book designer knows what they’re doing.

That being said, unlike pbooks, ebook design changes the moment users adjust side margins and font size. Layout becomes fluid. Soon nothing but the font remains of the original designer’s intensions. It’s both the reason I tend to stick with Publisher Default and why others have no regard for it.
