Hi all.

When I click on Authors>F, I get the following in the search bar:

author_sort:"~(^[F])|(&\s*[F])"

I understand that to the left of the OR, the expression is to "find at the beginning (of the author column) anything that begins with the capital letter F.

What does the ampersand symbol mean, please?
