No I definitely didn't say that. I stated what I remembered each did. Then I decided to test just in case it had changed. The tests confirmed what I had remembered and I stated that the options did what I expected them to do.

To be clear, there are two types of factory reset with the current firmware. These are:
  • From the Device information settings page. This wipes the book partition but does not change the root partition. The firmware is not changed.
  • A full factory reset. This formats the This formats the root partition and the book partition. Then it installs the firmware from the recovery partition. This can be started in the following ways:
    • From the Developer options page when developers mode is on.
    • Manually when starting the device from off. The exact method depends on the model, but, the effect is the same.
    • When starting the device and nickel doesn't start properly four or five times. When this happens, a prompt is shown about doing a factory reset.

After any of these, any sideloaded books will be lost and the setup prompts will be shown.

In older firmware, there was only the full factory reset. This changed sometime during 2019. At that point, the factory reset in the Developer options was added.
