Any current ereader will be an improvement over the Kindle keyboard. Higher resolution screens with more contrast and front lighting. Warm lighting or waterproofing (or both in the case of the Libra).
If you are comfortable with Calibre and want more control over your collection, a Kobo might be a good fit. Which one just depends on how large a screen you want.
Incidentally, I was just playing with a Kindle keyboard last weekend. It was neat, but felt so antique. My first reader was the Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight, so I've been used to touchscreens and lighting since the start.
