It's happened often enough which is why the option Attempt to support newer firmware is there. Generally, a new firmware release will be supported in the next release of calibre. With the staggered nature of Kobo's firmware rollouts, the chances are pretty good that you will receive the updated calibre before you get the updated firmware.
