Curiously, for Kindle for Mac, apprenticesakuya's patch does not appear to work on Mojave or Catalina. But it does work on High Sierra.

Mojave and Catalina users can still use chmod -x on 1.28.0 (and chmod -x will still cause Kindle app to crash on close).
