The GR metadata source plugin uses what it thinks is the best match. If there is an ISBN or ASIN, then they will be used and probably get the matching edition.
If you have the Goodreads Sync plugin, you can use it to choose the edition. It has a function to get all the editions for the book and let you choose. I do that if I notice it. Otherwise, you need to pick it on GR and updated the id for the book.
