I don't see that in 'Manage Authors' dialog, but I'm not dead sure we're looking at the same place.

I see red around Author sort in book Edit metadata, but I don't see red in 'Manage authors'--but it does show swapped 'Smith, Bob' even if the book has 'Bob Smith' in author sort.

Calibre expects you to want to do "Smith, Bob" in sorted. I believe you have to make some changes in Calibre Tweaks settings if you want it to stop 'helping' with that.

FYI, Calibre has a separate authors table under the covers, if the same author has multiple books, it can be a challenge to change author case for example.
