You did notice that I said "might"? And yes, privacy is important to me which is why I still run a physical server to host my VMs.

There is a difference between running a VM in a data centre located in Canada and storing my data in a random data centre. The VMs will be encrypted as will the network connections and Canadian privacy laws will be complied with. This can include routing tables set up such that data only crosses the border if none of the preferred routes are accessible.

In contrast, what protection does an ebook stored in Amazon's cloud drive have? Do you know where it is stored? Who has access to that data? How is it protected from unauthorized access? Plus a miserly 5GB of storage?
