kindle 8 frozen on ad screen
Hi all,
Well having read about as much as i can on this great resource - i'm now at a loss and so have decided to post.
I have a Kindle 8 just over 3 years old. After charging one day I picked it up to find that it was stuck and unresponsive. The screen simply showed the standard
(first reads) books advert but touching the screen did nothing. I tried all the reboot techniques that so many people have written about here but nothing. I then moved on to the theory that perhaps it was a charging issue - so set about charging it overnight, then over several days, weeks etc - intermittently I'd try to start or reboot it - nothing.
So next i broke it down, bought a new battery, fitted it - charged it - still no response. I checked the USB charging port to see if i could find cracked or dry joints from flexing or just port use - all ok. I've continuity checked the paths to the battery - they seem good and i can measure the voltage rising across the battery when its plugged in. It will slowly increment up to 3.7v - so the charging side of things (to my amateur eye) looks ok.
When i plug it in the amber light shows. It doesn't change to green even though the battery level will charge up to 3.7v and then wander around 3.72 / 3.83v.
When i unplug the charger the amber light goes off. If i then momentarily press the power button it will go green for a second or so and then go off - no screen response. Using a 40 second reboot just takes it through the repeating sequence of flashing amber/flashing green.
Plugging in to a PC gets no response at all - either from the Kindle or the PC - there's no USB device activity.
I think that just about covers everything i can bring in terms of info. My guess is there's no more to be done - its a dead Kindle - can anyone suggest anything else i can try.
Over to you guys. Thanks in advance for any input.
Cheers
Gunwoody
