The original file name is not retained**. So, not if the PDF is in the library already.

There's an option in Add Books settings to obtain metadata from the file name rather then from within the ebook file itself, viz:

**The GetFileName plugin can store the original file name in a metadata custom column, but it runs when a book is added.
