If your epub2 book passes EPUBCheck, you don't have to convert it, but you
can convert it to an epub3 book with the
ePub3-itizer Sigil plugin to take advantage of the epub3 features that Apple Books/iBooks supports.
Edit: In Calibre, you can also select Polish > Upgrade Book Internals.
