Not too many... more than it was at that time, but if that's a problem then please don't sideload/download more than let's say 5 books on your Kindle at once, because they can cause problems.
If this is the case, then firmware developers did something wrong. I have 153 books but most of them are articles or laws (+ dictionaries), so not so long as a book.
I restarted many times of course, it doesn't help.
No wonder the Amazon has called off the 5.12.4. But it was available when I updated my Kindle.
