Um, by not using this plugin?

Sorry, the question is a bit of a non sequitur in this thread. The thread is about discussion of a plugin for easily fixing the series info for a set of books. It isn't automatic, you have to explicitly select the books in the series and run the plugin. You then decide on the series name and the order of the books in the series. Using it for a single book, especially if you don't want to record the series, doesn't make sense.

But, basically calibre puts the series info on a book because you told it to. You probably downloaded the metadata for the book and that included the series info. You can turn that off, but, it is off for all future metadata downloads. Which means when you get the second book in the series, you will either have to manually add the series info for both books, or, enable the series info in the metadata download, download the metadata for both books, and then turn it off again.

In case you can'd guess, I don't think much of the idea. Part of that is that I want all the metadata there and as correct as possible. The other part is that I don't want to have to go back and fix the other book when I get the second in the series. I think the only time I would remove the series info for a single book is if I discovered the second was never published and never going to be.
