Strange I used the free epub conversion software on Kobo's website how did they convert it to an unsupported format? So I am assuming it has something to do with my original file. I tried saving as docx and odt.
You might want to try setting calibre to create an epub3 (Preferences, Conversion, Output Options, EPUB version: 3. Install the epubcheck plugin and check the epub in calibre's editor before uploading. The epubcheck error messages in the image are from Sigil (another epub editor) but the output in calibre's editor is the same.

And I am curious since first you say you uploaded a calibre converted epub then you mention trying to save as docx and odt. The error messages you mentioned look like an epub input so did you try uploading the calibre .epub or a .docx or an .odt file? I seem to remember that KWL supported .docx, .doc and .epub only.
