On the PW3 I tested, sure you can sideload books, but in Parental Control Mode (kids mode) they were inaccessible. Came back when Parental control was off.
Also in the EU, they MUST do a 2 year minimum. SOGO. Apple in Italy were prosecuted for only having 1 year warranty.
