Okay, confirmed, it's an issue with zlib-ng master at the time I built the packages.

(It's tripping the kernel alignment trap because of an unaligned memory access on an 8 byte value).

EDIT: Yup, fixed it. I'll cook some new builds, should be ready tonight/tomorrow if all goes well.

Note that, for some reason (hardfloat? kernel alignment trap disabled?), that bit of code works just fine on Kobo, on the exact same SoC... >_<".

EDITē: Ah. alignment trap is set to fixup on Kobo, but signal+warn on Kindle.
