Linux has reduced Windows on Internet Servers from about 90%, when Linux was 5% in 1999 to 5%.
Home users are down to about 46% Windows, as many have swapped PCs for iPad and Android Tablet.
Linux is really just the Kernel, which Android uses and it is now over 85% of phones and tablets.

Fifteen years ago it was obvious, XP was far better than Linux for the Desktop. Now Windows is only better if you have to have game or business application (Sage, Payroll etc) that only works on Win10, but even there it might not work, so MS includes the SAME VM as Linux includes. The 100% Windows 7 or XP compatibility mode on 64 bit Win 10 is to run the application in a complete copy of an older windows.

Sinofsky destroyed the Windows and MS Office experience and now uses an iPad pro with a keyboard.

Windows is pre-installed unless you build your own or buy a Mac. They had 1/2 the rate of uptake of Win10 as forecast even with forcing upgrades and offering it free.

Now all MS want is Cloud Subscriptions. A PS4 is maybe better for gamers and streaming services.

You are sounding like the MS Halloween Papers and Ballmer of 1999. MS now supply Linux on Azure and use Linux based Edge Routers for the Cloud.

People can see what tasks they need and choose now. Also the absolute need to upgrade PC every year to two years is gone.
