The internet has made this so much easier. I do my test driving and research in advance, know exactly what I want. When it's time to buy I search inventory, find the exact cars I want at a dozen or so dealerships within a few hours, make lowball offers by email referring to a specific car in stock, go back and forth by email 2 or 3 times mentioning other offers, get a to the penny out-the-door price, agree on a time, come in, sign, leave. Easy. I've done it a few times now (I drive a lot), and it's been easy and I get a great price.
