Always worked with ALL eReaders with ANY version of Android where the port supported USB2go.
I've downloaded ebooks on my oldest Android phone, a Sony-Ericsson and transferred to Kindle.
Really a laptop is better than iOS or Android tablets for any application like Calibre (Mac OS, Windows or Linux). The iOS and Android are too limited in comparison. Also many tablets have too small a screen. You do know that iOS has only 15% approx of the phone/tablet market and thus Android would be a first choice.

Calibre Companion works on iOS and Android.
