Argh, I have to re-think all my contrast numbers then. A while back I used a simple contrast meter on some random stuff, and it showed a Vizplex screen at around 12:1. Either it lied, or I mis-used it.
Anyway, the contrast on the pre-production device seemed very low: it was very hard to read the text. The colours appeared very, very washed out. Hence my guesstimated contrast ratio.
The 3-scan refresh time was very annoying: although one can start reading after the first scan, the scan line moving across the screen is distracting.
But I'm still going to check out the production version: if the WinCE is accessible enough to install third-party products, I might get one. The supported formats out of the box are a bit restrictive.
