You don't need to turn off the Kobo. You just put it to sleep. When it wakes from sleep, it's right there on the page you left off. Try installing the latest firmware and see if that fixes your problems. WiFi was one thing fixed since your factory firmware. You've nothing to lose by installing the new 4.21.x firmware.
