Tonight a side-by-side comparison of my long time favourite, Talisker 10Yr, and Ardbeg Uigeadail. Without water, actually quite similar, though I'm picking up a bit of rhubarb on the nose of the Uigeadail. The Talisker is pure sea on the nose.

Adding water? Wow, the Uigeadail releases all it's peaty wonderfulness into my nose and mouth, while the Talisker comes in softer, and with plenty of peat, but not nearly the level in the Ardbeg. But there's just the barest trace of phenol in the Ardbeg, however. A definite off-note. That rhubarb is gone, completely overpowered by the peat. The Talisker is still very much of the sea, but with some earthiness now, and a softer, warmer mouth.
