You need to use an older version of Kindle for PC.
I believe that 1.24 is the last version that works.
I have version 1.24.3 (51068) and it works with the calibre DRM plugin with no issues. You can google that version number to find download links.
You don't have to configure the plugin, or enter any serial numbers, it just works.
Every now and then you'll have to update the plugin as Amazon fiddle with things in the eBooks.
I have DeDRM 6.7.0 and KFX Input 1.31.0, and they have worked on every book I've bought so far.
