Ah, no, it's not that tough! It hardly compares to reading a different language--one picks up the differences quickly. It's worth a little effort. (Some knowledge of German and, to a lesser extent, the Romance languages also helps with Middle English).

I've also produced a Kobo dictionary that adds a complete Chaucer glossary, including all spelling variants, to the dictionary mentioned above; which I am finding is working perfectly, and making it much easier to read the Chaucer really fluently. But the glossary is copyrighted, so it'll be private-use unless the author gives me sharing permission (for which I'll ask).
