The major change for Catalina and the source of many issues is that Catalina no longer supports 32 bit applications. And there were a surprising number of applications that were still 32 bit. Much like unpleasant memories when one company I did some work for replaced most of their computers over a Christmas break with nice new computers running Windows 7 x64 and then found that they had several corporate apps that were GUI wrappers around a 16 bit code base. Can you say oh, crap!!
