I'm glad you don't validate the email address and that I can just input anything -- because if I'd just wandered in there by chance without having read this thread, I would probably have left there, before going any further.
Usually I don't want/like to register at sites, unless it's necessary for something I definitely want, like buying something or a newsletter I am already interested in. I don't want to do it in this case for exactly the reason you want to collect my email -- because you might want to send me emails later. As it is, I don't have any incentive for wanting to sign up (because I don't know what I'm getting), and if I thought I'd had to do it to get further on, it's very likely I would have left at this stage
