I know this is probably an ancient device, but that's what I've got and it works pretty well apart from one flaw - it's way too bright, even on the lowest level, making it really uncomfortable to use in the dark. I've seen some folks talk about this issue here but haven't found any solutions. Are there any? Like a custom ROM or maybe I should root the device and then do something?

My device is running on Android 4.0.4 (why are ereaders android versions so old btw?), 2015-01-10_19-50_1.6.3_675c088. I tried updating it OTA but it just gives me an error "i/o failure" or something like that.
