About the cover: no, this is also not possible on an Android smartphone / tablet.
As a contrast: it can be set individually for each application - much better than with the Kindle.

Thank you for you answer. I haven't had any open android ereader before, so my guess is that the native reading apps on those devices would be the best choice in terms of rendering and sharpness of the text.
I saw a video from Nathan, that is comparing the larger Boox devices Nova Pro and Note Pro against each other. And in this video, on both devices the Bookmark icon is somehow vanished:

About the cover thing: Well, as far as my research goes, it is possible to replace sleeping and powered off screens with your own images. I guess it would be possible for the NeoReader developers to implement a function, that extracts the book cover from an epub file and set as sleep/power off screen.
But I guess that has the lowes - if any - priority on their list.
