What I have done was- I've downloaded all of the English extensions (I've skipped "weird" ones though), searched for the manga that I wanted and tried out the same manga from different sources. Some sources had higher resolution images than others, so I think that you should try it out and bookmark manga that you like.
You can either read manga inside the app or download it (I think it downloads chapters as separate images, not as pdf).
If you are reading using tachiyomi to read manga, I would recommend disabling "page transitions" in the settings.
