Port forwarding is only needed (and and wanted ) for Outside (from not on you LAN) connections. TCP/UDP is what works when you do need that access.

Your Laptop firewall is probably blocking: Setting must be Private Network (AKA Very Trusted)
If both devices are WiFi, your router may need to Allow PEER connections
Or, you may need to make sure both devices are on the same frequency 'band'
