Personally, my eyes often track back in the text to look at something again, or more rarely look forward to see what is coming up. I've read somewhere that that is fairly common, that most of us don't just read the text linearly from start to finish. A very small screen limits that kind of roaming more than a larger screen. That's the most important limitation of small screens to me. Again, personally, I find that a 6" screen works well for me. I occasionally have to go back a page to re-read some text, but only a few times per novel.
