What format are the books you transferred to the Kobo? What were you reading them on? If they are graphics novels, each page is likely a graphic and there is no way to change the font size. Much the same for PDF files though there the problem is generally that the PDF page size is letter/A4 and way to big to fit on the screen.

The next question is how did you use a memory stick to transfer the files? AFAIK, the USB port on the Clara HD does not support external drives.
