One warning, looking into all the patches and soforth before you even own a Kobo can be overwhelming.

From what you wrote in your first post, a Kobo Libra seems like it would work well for you. As David said, Kobo plays MUCH better with Calibre and it does all the other things you mentioned.

The dictionary on a Kobo isn't quite as good as the one the Kindle uses. That's never been an issue for me, but I'm not a big dictionary user myself.

Look into the patches, but don't worry if it makes your head swim. Kobo out of the box is a good experience. The patches just tweak the experience, but aren't necessary to make the device usable.
