Can you point to one of these reports? Honestly, as far as I can recall, I have never seen a single report of a breakage due to putting their ereader in a pocket. In my mind, the only mention is by you.

It is all a matter of taking some care. And not being stupid. On the rare times I wear a suit, I consider the inside jacket pocket of the coat as an extremely safe place to put an ereader. Putting one in the back pocket of a tight fitting pair of jeans, that would be stupid. Leg pocket of a pair of cargo pants, reasonably safe, especially if the ereader is in a case.

And to be clear, I am not saying you shouldn't warn people. But, your attitude implies you think that the simple act of putting an ereader in a pocket will break it. It is just like not all device that do not have a cover on them will break. I have an eight year old Kobo Touch that bears witness to that fact. It has never been in a case.
