Fundamentally the point of Kindles isn't whizzy software. It's *reading*, and you don't read newspapers in the same way you do books. (Well, I don't, anyway.)

If the periodical browser was implemented in KF8, and the format extended suitably (the latter is likely trivial), obviously there'd be no problem moving periodicals over too -- but it's probably not that easy or Amazon would have done it at some point in the last decade. (Or there are hardly any users of periodicals and it's not worth their while. It wouldn't be the last time I was the last remaining user of a dying format )
