Seems a shame. I also found the fingerprint sensor on my phone could only be used as part of "unlock", which I didn't even want to test!
I tried a couple of apps and they did nothing. I did find apps to use the light sensor, accelerometers and microphone as a Light Meter, Spirit Level bubble and Sound level/noise meter.
