@KristianR: Huh. Yeah, I'd be glad to know if there's a difference on that front between the two (assuming the "old" one was downgraded via a full, proper factory reset).
That should point out whether earlier firmwares used to ship it as a module. It's mildly unlikely though, because the kernel sources are old, never updated, and were already making it a builtin :s.
(I suppose earlier FW could have mistakenly shipped an incompatible Mk. 5 module, on the other hand).
