Removing tags when adding books

Is there a way to automatically strip all tags when adding a book? I prefer to use my own tags as I process new records (my main log is on LibraryThing), and add a @NEW tag automatically, but sometimes I import books with 20 or more tags, mostly junk.

I'm thinking about an addition to the Add books preference where you can specify a tag to add on adding, perhaps something like a checkbox to clear existing tags before adding the automated tag? I know there's the rules bit, but that would mean identifying the tags to set up the rule, and often the tag is book-specific (a character name for example) not generic.

Is that possible?
